Wolves, Akitas & Huskies

Akitas are related to wovles. Just like Huskies and Malamutes. But Akitas DNA is the closest to wovles. But Akitas don't howl, Huskies and Malamutes have been known to do that. A Malamute howl is identical to a wolf, you can't tell them apart. (I read this on the internet). All three of these big breeds don't do well around smaller animals. That's why you cannot have them off leash. All these breeds can work hard and like to have a job. Akitas and Malamutes can get over 100 lbs. Huskies tend to be smaller and quicker, but still pretty big dogs. My Aunt got to meet some Alaskan Huskies that were racing in the Iditarod. (see picture). Alot of the old sled dogs become household pets. But they need a lot of exercise.

Akitas are nice to people, but not all Akitas are nice to people. Sometimes they don't like strangers. And they can destroy smaller animals. I have seen huskies and got to meet one it is cool and fun but I like akitas the best of all the
dogs. It's just neat that there are some similairities.

My Akita story

My family adopted two Akitas named Max & Sassy and they are very loving, but sometimes can be dominate around other dogs. But they like Shadow, our friend Paul's black Labrador retriever. Even though Sassy barks at her a little bit. Akitas are dominate dogs, they are not dogs that should ride in the back of a pick-up truck. If there was an animal they would jump out and go after it. They have good noses and can trail other animals. People that want a dog to unleash should not get an Akita. But Akita's are good with people. Akitas don't need as much exercise as a Labrador. But they do like exercise. Max & Sassy get excited about going outside to walk. And you don't need a whole lot of room for them. They also clean themselves really good-I mean all Akitas.

Max & Sassy were in the Wild for maybe a year or less? They survived! We got them from a nice lady by the name of Laura. She has an Akita rescue in Athena, OR called the ARK. There are some really nice dogs that some of you people might want to consider adopting.

If you want blog about Akitas please comment here! I would really appreciate it.
