My Akita story

My family adopted two Akitas named Max & Sassy and they are very loving, but sometimes can be dominate around other dogs. But they like Shadow, our friend Paul's black Labrador retriever. Even though Sassy barks at her a little bit. Akitas are dominate dogs, they are not dogs that should ride in the back of a pick-up truck. If there was an animal they would jump out and go after it. They have good noses and can trail other animals. People that want a dog to unleash should not get an Akita. But Akita's are good with people. Akitas don't need as much exercise as a Labrador. But they do like exercise. Max & Sassy get excited about going outside to walk. And you don't need a whole lot of room for them. They also clean themselves really good-I mean all Akitas.

Max & Sassy were in the Wild for maybe a year or less? They survived! We got them from a nice lady by the name of Laura. She has an Akita rescue in Athena, OR called the ARK. There are some really nice dogs that some of you people might want to consider adopting.

If you want blog about Akitas please comment here! I would really appreciate it.

Thank you for reading this,

Grant (Wolf) Hunter

Ok it seems to be working now.
Grant my friend, I am so proud of you for starting this blog to educate on Akitas and rescue.

You are a wonderful young man and Max and Sassy were so lucky to become a member of your pack.

I know you love to study wolves. Did you know that Akitas are the closest domesticated dog in DNA to wolves?

I hope you are enjoying your first experience with sharing life with not just one, but two dogs!
Bless you and your family for keeping them together and loving them so well.
Keep on educating! the dogs need you.

Hey Grant - I'm so glad you got Max and Sassy. Laura has been looking for a good home for them for a long time. I adopted my Akita from Laura almost 6 years ago. Her name is Kumeka. I am glad you are learning and teaching all you can about Akitas. They are not like normal dogs. But for responsible people like you who take them seriously, they are the best dogs in the world!! I'll check back to see if you have any stories to tell about them later.

Hi Grant,
I'm another Akita lover and owner, and we're both very lucky to have these magnificent dogs in our lives.
And it's so very important that you adopted Max and Sassy from a Rescue organization, because there are so many akitas (and all kinds of dogs) that have somehow lost their families, and are waiting for that loving forever home. Akitas especially crave the close bond that they form with their "pack", including their human beans. And Akitas also love having an akita companion, so your family have provided Max and Sassy with everything that they've longed for.

I have two akitas - Hoshi and Sascha, who were adopted from an akita rescue organization in NY; plus one little beagley guy who was listed on PetFinder as an akita mix, but while he can be stubborn like an akita, he sure doesn't look
like one!

When you have time, I"d love to hear how your family decided that AKitas were the dogs for you - especially since it sounds like these may be your first dogs ever?

Barbara, Hoshi, Sascha, and Little Jake

Grant, I loved your page! Thanks to you and your family for giving Max and Sassy such a great home, and thanks to you for taking the time to learn so much about Akitas and wanting to help them in rescue. And of course thanks to Laura and all the great folks there saving these wonderful dogs! We have two Akitas, a beautiful long-coat, Misty and a stinker of an 11 m/o show pup, Uzi. We also work with Akita rescue here in NM.
